How to Make Free Calls Through the Internet to Landlines
1. Visit a website that allows you to use their software to place free VoIP calls to landline telephones, such as iCall, VoIP Buster, Free Call, VoIP Stunt or VoIP Cheap (see Resources section).
2. View a list of the countries that you can call for free using the VoIP software. If the country you desire to call is listed, view the time restraints for your free call to ensure the software can accommodate your needs. For example, most of the VoIP software providers have a five-minute time limit per call. If you desire to speak for longer intervals, you will have to pay a small fee to use the services.
3. Click on the option to 'Download' the VoIP soft phone software to your computer. Once the download is complete, click the option to 'Run.' This will launch the software installation wizard. During the software installation, you may be asked to create a username and password. This will vary by provider.
4. Connect your headset and microphone to your computer. If you are using a USB headset, connect the headset to the USB port on your computer.
5. Launch the VoIP soft phone on your computer by clicking on its icon on your desktop or in your computer's system tray. If the icon is not listed on your desktop or system tray, search for the file location on your computer's hard drive.
6. Use your mouse to dial the phone number on the VoIP soft phone. Click the 'Place Call' or 'Send Call' button. The exact wording will vary by software.
7. Begin speaking when the individual answers his landline phone. You may have to adjust the volume on your computer to ensure that you can hear the individual clearly.

How Do Bluetooth Car Kits Work?
How does Bluetooth work?
Bluetooth is a way of allowing wireless communication. It is able to connect several devices at once without having problems with synchronization. Bluetooth has a receiver that uses 79 different radio channels that are all spaced very close to each other, only 1 Hz apart. The receiver can then use these radio signals to communicate with any device with a Bluetooth adapter. The adapters have a card that can receive signals from the Bluetooth receiver and then communicate these signals to whatever device the adapter is connected to. One unique aspect of Bluetooth is how it avoids interfering with other radio signals. After each communication, the frequency that the Bluetooth receiver uses to communicate with devices changes, thus avoiding interference.
How do Bluetooth car kits work?
When your automobile's ignition is turned on, the Bluetooth car kit automatically looks for a Bluetooth enabled phone. If it finds one within range, it then sets up a Bluetooth connection that synchronizes the car kit with the cell phone. Then, whenever a call is dialed or answered, the car kit picks up the voice signals and then sends it over a radio frequency to the cell phone, which then transmits it just like a regular call.
What features do Bluetooth car kits have?
Most Bluetooth car kits have the ability to detect and communicate with phones over a distance of around 30 feet. They also are usually linked to the car stereo, so that the music is automatically muted whenever there is an incoming call. Some have voice recognition built in, allowing for a call to be dialed simply by saying the name of the person you want to call. Others have easily accessed buttons for answering and ending calls. In general, car kits also have an LCD screen for caller ID, as well as the ability to connect multiple phones at once.

How to Get a Free Landline
1. Bundle your services. Purchasing services, such as cable, phone and Internet from the same company can result in a large package discount. Compare the amount you are currently paying for your landline and other services, then review the bundled packages; the savings might completely eliminate the cost of the landline.
2. Call your regional public utility commission; this department can help you apply for federal discounts that eliminate the cost of owning a landline -- e.g., enrollment in the LifeLine Across America program saves you $10 or more, which is enough to cover the cost of a local-only or emergency-only landline.
3. Contact the National Association of State Utility Advocates to talk to an advocate. Utility advocates can help you get necessary utilities when you cannot afford them.

How to Unblock Incoming Phone Numbers
1. Let the call go to voicemail. Many people leave their names, phone numbers and reasons they're calling on voice messages. If you receive a blocked caller ID, the easiest way to 'unblock' it is to let it roll over to voicemail, then listen to the message.
2. Call the number back. Many landlines and cell phones have Redial buttons---if you want to call back a blocked number, press Redial, making sure the blocked call was the last incoming call. If a person answers, explain you received a call from that blocked number and politely request that number. If you get a message recording, listen carefully as the person's name and number may be on it. If you don't have a Redial button on your phone, call the phone manufacturer and ask if it offers a redial feature. For example, on cell phones, a redial feature might be under 'History' or 'Options'.
3. Order Anonymous Call Rejection. This service is typically for landlines only. Check with your cell phone provider, whose number is on your monthly statements, and ask if it provides this service. This service automatically blocks incoming calls. Instead of the call ringing through to your phone, the caller instead hears a recording that you do not accept blocked calls, and that he must unblock his call for it to ring through. If the caller unblocks his call, his name and/or phone number displays on your caller ID. There is typically a monthly charge for this service.
4. Sign up with TrapCall. TrapCall is a fee-based service that unmasks blocked caller IDs, displaying instead the caller's name and/or phone number. For a free trial, go to Trapcall.com, click the 'Try Trapcall free' button in the lower left corner of the Web page, and follow the instructions.
5. Sign up with an unblocking service. One such service is Unblock Private Numbers, which forwards incoming blocked calls to a toll-free number that unmasks the blocking, then forwards the caller's name and/or phone number to your caller ID. To sign up, go to Unblockprivatenumbers.com, scroll down the page to 'Step-By-Step Instructions,' click the 'Click here' link in Step 1 and follow the instructions.
How to Text to Multiple Recipients on an iPhone
1. Push the 'Messages' button on your iPhone home screen. This appears as a green button with a speech balloon on it.
2. Push the small button in the top-right corner of your screen that has a pencil and paper icon on it. This creates a new text message.
3. Enter the name or phone number of the first person you wish to text. If they're in your contacts list, you'll just see their name displayed.
4. Notice the cursor remains in the 'To:' field. You can continue to enter names here by pushing the '+' button until you're finished. You can also enter the phone numbers of recipients not in your address book by entering them manually.
5. Compose your text message and hit 'Send.' Your text will be delivered to the recipients you specified all at once, just like an email list.
