How to Clear Up the Device Memory on a BlackBerry

1. Scroll through all of your instant messages, both sent and received, on your BlackBerry device and delete all that aren't relevant beyond that day. Accumulated incoming and outgoing SMS and MMS text messages can eventually take up a large percentage of your device's on-board memory if not managed properly.
2. Consider using your BlackBerry device's Content Compression tool, which will compress stored information so it takes up as little space on your device as possible. To turn Content Compression on, visit your device's 'Home' screen. Locate and click on the 'Security Options' icon, then choose 'General Settings' in the next menu screen. Highlight 'Content Compression,' click your scroll wheel or trackball to select it for modification, and then change the setting's status to 'Enabled.' Press the 'Escape' or 'Back' button on the keypad and click 'Save' when you are asked.
3. Remove any unnecessary media from the device memory, such as old video files, sound files or image files. If your BlackBerry device allows the use of an SD or miniSD media card, consider purchasing and using one. Store all of your images, video files and sound files on your removable media card rather than keeping them in your device's system memory.
4. Erase your BlackBerry's event log. This log isn't flushed automatically by BlackBerry devices and, if left unattended over a period of months, will consume a vast amount of internal memory on the device. To clear the event log, hold down the 'Alt' key in the lower-left hand corner of your keypad. While holding this button, type 'lglg' on your keypad and the event log screen will then appear. Press the 'Blackberry' icon, normally to the left of the scroll wheel or trackball, and then select 'Clear Log' and then 'Delete.'
5. Clear your BlackBerry's web browser cache by activating your browser and then pressing the 'BlackBerry' icon to access the browser's Settings menu. Though the menus of various mobile browsers differ slightly, you should be able to scroll through the settings to locate an option which allows you to clear the browser's cache. Select and clear the cache to free up additional memory.
6. Remove the battery from the device while it is still turned on. Do this periodically, perhaps once a week. There are some memory areas that cannot be cleared in any other way. You will notice that, when going into 'Options' and then 'Status' after a battery-remove-reboot sequence, that the memory amount shows a drastic increase after the device is reset in this way.
