How to Unlock a MyTouch 3G for Free
1. Get your MyTouch 3G IMEI number by typing '*#06#' at the phone's home screen.
2. Call T-Mobile customer support at 1-800-937-8997 and request an unlock code. Be prepared to give the representative your name, mobile number, IMEI number and email address. Your unlock code should then be sent to the email address you provided. If you're unaware of your SIM card PIN, it's also a good idea to request this from the representative at this time.
3. Power down your MyTouch 3G. Remove its SIM card (located beneath the phone's battery) and replace it with your new foreign or prepaid SIM.
4. Power your phone back on. Enter your SIM card PIN, if prompted.
5. Enter the unlock code that you previously received when your phone prompts you to enter an unlock code. Your MyTouch 3G should now be unlocked and ready to use with your new service provider.

How to Get Free Cellular Service
1. Determine if the state you live in is serviced by one of the wireless companies offering the 'Lifeline' program. The companies' websites allow you to enter your ZIP code to determine your eligibility.
2. Fill out the application online for the wireless company you have chosen to use. The application consists of your full name, address, contact information, birthdate and Social Security Number.
3. Verify that you qualify for the 'Lifeline' program. The wireless company will inform you of what you must submit to them to qualify under your state's rules. Most states require proof of participation in the food-stamp, Medicaid, public-housing-assistance or supplemental-security-income programs. You may also qualify based on your income. If you qualify based on income, you must provide proof of your income.
4. Re-certify with the wireless company each year to keep your wireless service.
How to Create Free Mobile Themes
1. Access the website for the Phone Themes Studio Toolkit. This program helps you create themes for Nokia Series 60, Windows Mobile PocketPC and Windows Mobile SmartPhone devices.
2. Download the Phone Themes Studios Toolkit to your computer (see References). Choose which program you wish to install, as there are different programs for the three phone brands. The downloads are free, and are considered applications. Once the Phone Themes Studios Toolkit is downloaded, you can create free mobile themes for use on your own phone.
3. Access the Zedge website (see References) to create or use free mobile themes. Zedge is a bit different in that you chose an already made icon, and then add preselected features such as icons and sounds. Zedge works with most phones that have Bluetooth capability, or you can transfer from computer to cell phone.
4. Create your free mobile themes using Own Skin (see References). The website offers programs for a number of cellphone brands and allows you to select your own theme and background, and to personalize them.
