How to Locate a Cell Phone for Free

1. Call your cell phone from your land line or another person's cell phone. Listen for the ring. This will only work if your cell phone is on and nearby. You can also have another party dial your cell phone number if you're not near where you think you left it. Look in your local lost and found or police station if you misplaced your phone in a public place.
2. Contact your phone provider and ask if your phone has a GPS tracking system. Most cell phones have GPS capabilities but because GPS is generally meant to be used for emergency purposes it may not be properly enabled. Your phone may be set to emergency GPS, which will allow your phone to be traceable only during an emergency 911 call, or to constant GPS. The GPS works by receiving signals from satellites and using those signals to calculate its precise position on the earth.
3. Use free GPS tracking software such as InstaMapper or Mologogo that is compatible with your phone. You will need to register your phone with the software. When you download tracking software, the website will have a section containing the types of phones that are compatible with the software (see Resources). You can also enable tracking software through your phone provider for a fee.
4. Log in to your GPS software, if GPS is enabled on your phone. A map with a blinking dot appears, giving you a general idea to where your phone is located.

How to Set Up Two Phone Numbers on One Cell Phone

1. Create a Google account. Having a Google account allows you to request a Google Voice account. There is usually a waiting list before receiving a Google Voice phone number, but you must have a Google account before requesting a Google Voice phone number.
2. Set up Voice options. Once you receive your invitation to join Google Voice, you will need to decide what you want Google to do when your Voice number receives a call. Under the 'Settings' menu, you can add the phones to which you would like your Google Voice calls forwarded. Adding a cell phone to this list will enable Google Voice to send incoming Voice calls directly to your cell phone.
3. Set up your phone options. Google Voice has several options under the 'Settings' menu, including using Google as your voice mail. With this option, Google Voice will record all your voice messages, transcribe them and either email or text the transcript to your phone.
4. Share your Google Voice number. If you want to use one number for personal and the other for business, having a Google Voice number and your original cell number both ring your one cell phone allows you to keep business and personal calls separate. To set this feature up on your phone, make your Google number a contact in your phone. If possible, assign a special ring tone for your Google number contact. With some phones, you can also assign a caller ID picture that will appear whenever calls from a certain number reach your phone.
