How to Send a MSG to a Cell Phone from Linux
1. Open your preferred Linux Web browser and navigate to TextForFree. Enter the receiver's cell number and then the title for the text message. Enter your text message and select the recipient's cell provider. Click 'Send Free Text Message!'
2. Open your preferred Linux Web browser and navigate to SendSMSNow. Choose your recipient's country and enter her phone number. Enter your cell number in the 'From' box and then enter the message. Click 'Send SMS.'
3. Open your preferred Linux Web browser and navigate to SMS Everywhere. Enter the 'Send to' number. Enter the message you want to send. Click 'Send Now.'
How to Unlock T
1. Dial *#06# from you mobile phone. Write down the mobile phone’s 15-digit International Mobile Equipment Identity, or IMEI, number that appears on the screen. Click “OK” to clear the screen.
2. Dial *611 from your T-Mobile USA mobile phone or dial 1-800-937-8997 from a non-T-Mobile USA phone to connect to customer service. Explain to the representative that you want to use your mobile phone with other GSM mobile providers. Give her the IMEI you found in Step 1. Give her a valid email address to send the unlock code to when it’s available.
3. Remove the battery panel and battery from the back of your mobile phone. Remove the T-Mobile USA SIM card from the holder and replace it with the SIM card from your new network. Replace the battery panel and the battery. Turn on your T-Mobile USA mobile phone.
4. Click “OK” to remove the SIM card error message that appears on the screen. Enter the unlock code you received from T-Mobile USA in the field on the next screen. Press the enter button.
How to Activate Airtel's Free GPRS
1. Activate GPRS on the phone if you haven't already. Dial 121 and request the customer care representative to activate the service on your phone.
2. Go to 'Menu' on your phone. Select 'Connections'/'Connectivity' > 'Internet' > 'Data Accounts'/'Internet Accounts,' and select the Airtel account.
3. Enter your Airtel cell phone number in the 'Username' field if it's blank.
4. Change the APN and access point to 'airtelfun.com' or 'airtelmms.com.'
5. Configure the IP address to '100.1.200.99' with port '8080.' This IP address is applicable if you use the access point airtelfun.com. If you use airtelmms.com as the access point, change the IP address to '100.1.201.172' with port '8799.'
6. Save these settings on the phone. Your free GPRS from Airtel should now be working.
How to Get Your Google Voice Account Set Up
1. Sign up for Google Voice on Google.com. Fill out the application and submit it for approval. Once approved, you will receive a confirmation email from Google. Click on the link inside the email to set up your specific Google voice account. Enter your Gmail address and password.
2. Select your phone number. You can choose to enter the area code you would prefer, and/or a word you would like have affiliated to your phone number. For instance, if you are setting up Google voice for a veterinary business, you can select a phone number that incorporates the word 'vet' into it.
3. Select the number you like and click 'Continue.' Create a 4-digit pin number. This will be the number to access your voice mail. Accept Google's terms and click 'Continue.'
4. Enter the number that will be used for forwarding calls. Your Google voice number is just a gateway. For instance, when someone calls your Google voice number, the call is automatically forwarded to your cell phone or your office.
5. Click 'Continue' and read the prompt that Google is about to confirm your forwarding phone number. Confirm the number by picking up the call and entering the 2-digit code that Google randomly picks for you. When you enter the code, Google will prompt you to set up your voice mail and so on. You may do so right then or later if you prefer.
6. Add other phone numbers. Keep in mind that as you add forwarding numbers, you must be able to answer that call and enter the code to validate the forwarding.
7. Click 'Done' and enter the dashboard system of Google voice. The first screen you see is showing you the power of the transcribed voice mail system. Google takes your voice mails and translates them to actual text in an email to you.
How to Get a Free Cell Phone and a Free Minutes Plan
1. Visit the website safelinkwireless.com. Enter your zip code and press 'go.'
2. Fill out the application online. You must meet certain income requirements to qualify for the program. Print out the application, then send it and the other requested information to the address SafeLink lists for your area. The address is available on the website.
3. Call 1-800-977-3768 and request an application by mail if the online link does not work.
How to Send SMS to Kosovo
1. Go to Shkup-SMS (see link in Resources) and enter the phone number that you want to send your text message to. Find the country and mobile service provider. Write your text message up to 140 characters. Enter the antispam image and click the 'Send Messages' button.
2. Go to SMSFree4All (see Resources.) You will not need to register for this site. Enter the 8-digit number that you are sending a text to in Kosovo. Write a text message up to 160 characters and enter the antispam captcha code. Click the 'Submit' button and the message will be sent.
3. Register with CardboardFish (see Resources.) Provide your country, username, first and last name, an email address and password. Agree to the terms and conditions and click 'Register.' Once you have done this, you will be able to send inexpensive text messages to most countries around the world. Most international texts cost $0.10 as of 2010. You can make payment with PayPal.
How to Find Out Who a Phone Number Belongs to Free
1. Use an online reverse directory to search for the number. This is likely to work best for landlines that are not 'unlisted.'
2. Search the complete phone number in any major search engine. This could bring up business information as well as public records tied to the phone number, including name and address.
3. Call the number and ask to whom you are speaking. This is simple, direct and effective -- assuming someone answers. Be aware, though, that your number is likely to show up on the other person's caller ID.
