How to Unlock a Cingular Phone for Free

1. Contact Cingular (AT&T) on the phone.
2. Tell the customer services representative that you want to unlock your cell phone.
3. Provide all the details that the representative asks for including the cell phone model and manufacturer. You will also have to provide the phone's IMEI number (type *#06# to find the IMEI number). Once you provide these details, you will be asked the reason for having the phone unlocked.
4. Wait to hear back from AT&T. Usually AT&T assesses individual cases to find out whether the person is eligible for unlocking. Your eligibility depends on the duration of your contract, and the reasons given for having the phone unlocked. For instance, you may want to have the phone unlocked to avoid roaming charges when traveling abroad. When AT&T accepts your request, you will be granted the unlock code for your phone for free.
5. Insert a SIM other than Cingular and power on the phone. Your phone will then ask you to enter the unlock code obtained from AT&T.

How to Send Text Messages to a Metro PCS Phone From Your Computer

Sending a Text via Email
1. Sign into your email account; any email account provider will work. Then begin composing a new message.
2. Next, address the e-mail to ##########@mymetropcs.com. (Put the Metro PCS customer's 10-digit cell phone number in place of the #s.)
3. Finally, type out the text you want to send into the email and send it. This service is free because email providers don't consider it a text message—they see it as an email, a free service.
Sending a Text Through an Instant Messenger
4. If using AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) to send a text, send an IM to +1########## with the recipient's 10-digit phone number replacing the #s. Type '+1' before the phone number; otherwise, it won't work.
5. If using Yahoo Messenger or MSN Messenger, add the Metro PCS cell phone number into your contacts.
6. Type out the text message as an instant message, and send it. As with emailing text messages, you can send them for free as an instant message because instant messenger providers simply consider it an instant message.
