How to Send a Text Message From Email to Set Up a Text Alert System

1. Type the cellphone numbers that have subscribed to your text alert system into the search box at the Telephone Number Identification website. This site will return the wireless carrier associated with each number. You can skip this step if you request the wireless carrier when a user signs up for your text alert system.
2. Locate the wireless provider's SMS gateway for each user. The following are gateways for major wireless providers in the U.S.:Alltel: message.alltel.com
AT&T: txt.att.net
Boost Mobile: myboostmobile.com
Sprint Nextel: messaging.nextel.com or messaging.sprintpcs.com
T-Mobile: tmomail.net
US Cellular: email.uscc.net (SMS)
Verizon: vtext.com
Virgin Mobile USA: vmobl.com
3. Create an email address consisting of the first cellphone number on your list, followed by the '@' symbol and the SMS gateway. For example, the email address for a Verizon Wireless number would similar to '5555551234@vtext.com'. Repeat this process for each cellphone number on your list.
4. Create a group or mailing list in your email client that includes the email addresses you just compiled for all of the subscribers to your text alert system.
5. Create a new email message as you normally would and type the group or mailing list name into the 'To:' input field.
6. Type the SMS alert in the message box. Limit your message to 140 characters or data will be lost in the translation from email to text.
7. Click the 'Send' button to send the alert as an SMS text to all members of your mailing list.

How to Download GPS to a Cell Phone

The Steps
1. First off, your phone must be Internet capable. It is also a very good idea to have a data plan included with your voice plan. Otherwise you will end up running horrendously high phone bills in a matter of days.
2. Your phone must also be Java capable. That doesn't mean you have to have a Blackberry device or the i-Phone, but the phone must have the capability for Java, because Java updates with your new location, and some phones just simply aren't capable.
3. There are a number of programs available online for you to choose from. Searching 'GPS for Phone' will get you a plethora of results, check out the reviews on them and make your decision.
4. Most programs will start running automatically, but some will need to be initiated by the user. If the program doesn't run in the first minute or so after downloading it, find the program, select it and the program will give you an option to Run. Afterwards you will probably need to perform the basic setup procedures, all of which the program will walk you through.
5. If you don't want to spend the phone memory on a GPS system for your phone, you can always use Google Maps (maps.google.com) or Map Quest (www.mapquest.com). The only downer for these programs is that you would need to know your starting location to get to your ending location. They work great in a city setting where you can simply enter in your current location, but are more sketchy out in the rural areas where there aren't as many street signs.

How to Get Minutes for Free on Prepaid Phones

1. Look for promotional offers when buying into a cell phone contract. Many cell phone companies offer you a free cell phone for signing a contract with their company. However, some also offer prepaid phone minutes when you sign a contract. If you are in the market for a new cell phone, ask about whether there are free minute promotional offers that you can take advantage of.
2. Ask about promotional offers when changing contracts. Cell phone companies want to keep your business. When your contract is up, you have the chance to either stick with the same company or move to a different cell phone company. You can negotiate the receipt of free minutes from your company in exchange for your staying with them and not moving to another company.
3. Join rewards programs. There are many rewards programs on the Internet that provide incentives for people to fill out surveys, shop online, or surf the web using special web browsers. The wonderful thing about some of these programs is that you get rewarded for doing exactly what you would be doing anyway. Sites such as Phone Lagoon and iwirelesshome.com (see Resources for links) provide free cell phone minutes and free prepaid phone cards for simply completing some offers online or shopping at participating stores.
4. Use promotional codes. Websites such as RetailMeNot provide promotional codes for all types of websites, some of which involve cell phone minutes. Other websites, such as tracfone-minutes, a blogspot site, provide specific promotional codes you can use to get free cell phone minutes.

How to Change a Phone Number to Toll Free

1. Contact your current phone company or cell phone provider about your desire to obtain a toll-free number. Ask about the benefits and limitations of each package they offer, such as how your current phone plan might be affected or if there is a way to restrict the number of toll-free calls you receive.
2. Visit the SMS/800 web site and click 'Service Providers' to find other Responsible Organizations that can help you obtain your toll-free number. Write down three organization names and phone numbers that sound familiar to you, then search the internet for positive and negative reviews on each company. Select the Responsible Organization that seems the most credible.
3. Contact the Responsible Organization and explain your desire to change your phone number to a toll-free number. Ask about the benefits and limitations of each package they offer, such as if voice mail is offered or if there is any penalty for early cancellation.
4. Choose a toll-free package, such as per-call charging or flat-rate calling. Ask questions about your flexibility to change your toll-free package without penalty.
5. Follow any instructions the Responsible Organization gives you to complete the process, which may include obtaining a new telephone or cell phone. Choose an activation date that ensures your service will be turned on before you advertise your new phone number to prospective callers.
