How to Send Receive Free Text Messages From a Computer
1. Open your email application. You can use either a desktop or Web-based email application.
2. In the 'To' field enter the 10-digit telephone number you wish to text, followed by the carrier's email code. For instance, if you want to text a Verizon network user with the phone number 555-123-4567 you would text '5551234567@vtext.com.' See the Resource section below for a full list of carrier email codes.
3. Write your message. Text messages usually have a 160-character limit. Remain within the limit so your message isn't cut short.
4. Click the 'Send' button. Your text will be sent to the cell number you provided. If you receive a response, you can simply reply to the received email, just as if you were emailing to another computer.
