How to Unlock a Razr Phone for Free

1. Request the Razr's IMEI code by contacting the provider's customer service. If you've been a customer long enough, the provider may send the IMEI code, or the code identifying the specific phone, in a few days. Usually customers have to fulfill at least a portion of the length of their contract with a provider before the provider will provide the IMEI code to allow the phone to work with other providers' networks.
2. Turn off the Razr by holding the red phone button.
3. Remove the SIM card by removing the protective cover for the battery on the back of the phone. Near the battery housing locate a small slot with a small chip resembling a memory card. This is the SIM card. Slide it out to remove it.
4. Insert the new provider's SIM card into the empty card slot near the battery. Place the battery cover back on the phone.
5. Turn the Razr back on by holding the green phone button until the phone turns on. The phone will detect the new card and ask for the IMEI code. Enter the code. Now the Razr will operate using the new network.
