1. Visit Safelinkwireless.com and click the 'Enroll' tab on the home screen. Enter your 'Zipcode' and click 'Submit.' To qualify for the 'Lifeline' program, applicants must receive at least one form of government assistance, such as Section 8 housing, food stamps, Medicaid, SSI or free lunch. The applicant cannot be registered with another Lifeline cell phone provider and must have a valid U.S. address.
2. Click the 'Apply' button on the home screen. Enter your name, address and telephone number in the appropriate fields. Confirm your identity by entering your birthday and the last four digits of your social security number. Double-check your information for accuracy. Enter the verification code in the box at the bottom of the page and click 'Submit.'
3. Write down your confirmation code. You will need this number to check the status of your application. Return to the website in around two hours to check on your application. Click the 'Check Status' tab located on the yellow bar on the homepage. Enter the confirmation code in the appropriate field and click 'Submit.' If your application was approved, your phone should arrive within five to eight business days. If your application was denied, contact 1-800-977-3768 to speak with a customer service representative.
