How to Send SMS Without Ads
Using Gmail
1. Sign in to your Gmail account. If you don't have an email account on Gmail, you can sign up for free by going to the website (see Resources).
2. Click the 'Settings' link after you sign in to your account.
3. Select 'Labs' from the settings tab.
4. Scroll down to the bottom of the page. Enable 'Text Messaging (SMS) in chat.'
5. Enter the cell phone number in the text field under 'Chat.' As you enter the number, Gmail will show you the option to 'Send SMS.' Select this option.
6. Enter the recipient's name and click 'Save.'
7. Type in the text message in the window that appears on the screen. Hit 'enter' to send the message.
Using ICQ
8. Download and install ICQ if you don't already have it (see Resources). ICQ is an instant messaging client, which also allows you to send SMS.
9. Launch the application after it installs.
10. Click the 'SMS' tab on the contact list window. You don't necessarily have to have the recipient added on your ICQ list.
11. Enter the recipient's mobile number in the respective field, and write the message in the text box.
12. Click 'Send.'
Using Local MSG
13. Go to the website Local Message and sign up (see Resources). Once you create an account, you will be able to send text messages for a flat rate to all destinations.
14. Check out the rates and coverage section of the website, and select a plan that suits you. For instance, as of September 2010 you can purchase 100 text messages for $7.99. You can pay through your credit card or PayPal account.
15. Click 'Compose Message' and enter the recipient's cell phone number (along with the country code and the area code).
16. Type in the message that you want to send.
17. Click 'Send,' and the message will be sent to the recipient.
