How to Qualify for SafeLink Free Wireless Cell Phone Service

1. Reside in one of the areas in which SafeLink is available. SafeLink is available in Alabama, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Nevada, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, West Virginia and Wisconsin. New locations are added periodically so if your area is not listed, check the SafeLink website to see whether it’s been added.
2. Meet the income requirements. In addition to making sure the SafeLink free wireless program is offered in your area, your household income can be no higher than 135% of the federal poverty level. To find out current U.S. poverty levels visit the Department of Health and Human Services website.
3. Receive government assistance. If you already receive assistance from your state government or the federal government, such as food stamps, public housing or Medicaid, there’s a good chance you qualify for SafeLink free wireless service.
4. Refrain from enrolling in another LifeLine program. If you are currently receiving assistance from another LifeLine program such as a land line program that offers discounted service, you cannot enroll and will not be eligible for the SafeLink free wireless program.
5. Maintain a valid address. A valid address means a valid street address where your SafeLink wireless phone can be shipped. SafeLink does not consider P.O. boxes a valid address.
