How to Receive SMS Messages Online

1. Consider the options available for receiving SMS texts online to find that which suits you best. Those on a budget can look to Gmail chat, txtDrop or SMS Everywhere for free and simple texting services.
2. Sign into your Gmail account or make one for free (see Resources), then go to Gmail Settings and select the Labs link to activate beta texting. The Gmail texting service uses the chat window in the site's interface to send and receive messages directly.
3. Visit the txtDrop website (see Resources) to send a text directly from the front page. The text will send to your friend quickly, and your friend's reply can be sent directly to an email account by specifying your email address in the field provided.
4. Access the SMS Everywhere website (see Resources) for free, individual texting. The site also offers bulk texting, scheduled messages and user development, so users can develop their own messaging software. Additionally, users can download 'widgets,' or transportable HTML programs, to send messages from blogs and sidebars without visiting the site.
