How to Make SMS Chat the Default

Set SMS Chat As Your Default Text Messaging Interface
1. Download and install Windows Mobile SMS Chat onto you phone if it is not already installed. This can be downloaded from the official Windows Mobile SMS Chat website (See Reference 1).
2. Download, install and open a Mobile Registry Editor application on your phone if one is not already installed. Mobile Registry Editor can be downloaded from various websites including Softonic and Softpedia.
3. Open the 'Start' menu in your phone's Windows Mobile interface and select 'Run' from the drop down menu.
4. Type 'Regedit' in to the text box provided and click 'OK.' Your phone's HKey Local Machine (HKLM) registry folder should open in a new window.
5. Open the 'Software' folder then open the subsequent 'Microsoft,' 'Shell' and 'Rai' folders.
6. Open the file 'MSINBOX' within the 'Rai' folder. You will see that the 'MSINBOX' file incorporates various codes and text.
7. Write '\Program Files\VITO\SMS-Chat\SMSChat.exe' (including the speech marks) after the text 'Data:' which is under the 'Name: 1' section. This text will change your default SMS setting only if SMS Chat is installed in to the Program Files folder on your device. If it is saved in another folder, such as My Storage, you will need to write the specific location, i.e. '\My Storage\Program Files\VITO\SMS-Chat\SMSChat.exe' (including the speech marks).
8. Save and close the file. Next time you open your phone's SMS service the SMS Chat application should automatically open.
