How to Get Caller ID Service For Free
1. Decide which VoIP service best suits your needs. Some services are provided by your local cable company (if they have broadband Internet as part of their service); others are stand-alone companies that specialize in high-speed Internet telephone service. Some of the better-known companies are Vonage, Phone Power, Comcast and magicJack.
2. Order the necessary equipment to run your VoIP line. Most companies use a special router into which your phone will plug directly. MagicJack uses a USB device that plugs into your computer's USB port, and your phone line plugs into the other side. The cost of the device includes your first full year of service.
3. Set up your equipment. Make sure that you follow the instructions for the device so that you get the best quality service you can. Plug your phone line into the device and then into your telephone. In order for the caller ID service to work, your phone will need to have a caller ID function built into it.
4. Look at the caller ID screen on your phone and see who's calling. If the service is provided by your cable company, the option to see caller ID on your TV screen is also available with some carriers. This service is included with your plan and will not cost you extra money.
