How to Send Receive Text Messages Through the Internet
Sending a Text From Your Cell Phone to a Computer
1. Select the option for 'New Message' or 'New Text Message' on your cell phone.
2. Enter an email address in the 'To' field instead of a cell phone number. For example, if you wish to text your friend at AOL, you would enter 'myfriend@aol.com,' where your friend's email address replaces the 'myfriend' section.
3. Type your message and press 'Send' when finished. Your text message will show up in the recipient's email program as a regular email.

4. Open your email program and compose a new message.
5. Enter the cell phone number of the recipient in the 'To' field with the mobile carrier information after the @ symbol. For example, to send a text to a Verizon phone, enter '1234567890@vtext.com,' where the numbers are replaced by the actual cell phone number. Each carrier has its own unique email address that can be obtained from the carrier's website.
6. Compose your message. Most carriers only allow text messages of up to 140 characters in length, so keep your message brief.
7. Click 'Send.' The recipient will receive your email message as a text message on his cell phone.
