1. Find a pay phone. Although they are not as prevalent as they used to, you can check for pay phones in gas stations, on street corners and near the restrooms in restaurants and bars.
2. Pick up the receiver once you find a pay phone, and then dial '1,' then '800' and then the seven-digit number. The owner of the 1-800 number pays for the service, so you do no have to worry about it.
3. Wait for the phone to ring. When you are finished with your call, hang up the phone.
