How to Build an SMS Service
1. Determine what type of service you intend to provide. This will depend on your targeted audiences. If you have a specific group of people receiving certain messages, you need a bulk messaging service. You can also store your contact lists in the bulk messaging functionality. Keyword response is providing an automated reply to incoming messages containing a certain keyword. If you are launching an involved campaign, keyword response is for you. Smart texting evolves from keyword response, but is more complicated.
2. Find a commercial provider like Clicktell and mBlox. They are a simple and cost-effective way to set up your SMS service. Commercial providers also offer numerous forms of support and mobile billing.
3. Sign up for an SMS gateway on your chosen provider for free. It is free to use their gateway and you only pay for the messages you send. Via SMS gateway, you can enable your SMS service.
4. Choose the type of product you will use from the list of the products in your chosen provider's website. The choice of product will depend on your requested specifications, including desktop/server based application and send messages through email client or server.
