How to Send Text Messages to Phones Via the Internet for Free

Online Services
1. Determine the carrier of the phone number to which you wish to send a text message.
2. Search for a website that allows you to send text messages to the carrier of the phone number you are messaging. Some sites charge for this service, but there are many free ones, such as OnlineTextMessage, SMS Everywhere and Google Voice. With some of these, you may have to register with the site in order to send a message.
3. Enter the recipient's phone number, along with your message, and send the text message.
Skype
4. Download and install Skype software.
5. Open the program and create a Skype account.
6. Purchase Skype credit, which is required to pay for the cost of sending a text message. The cost to send a text message to the United States is $0.112.
7. Click on 'Tools' in the toolbar and select 'Send SMS' from the menu.
8. Enter the recipient's phone number, type in your message and send the message.
Email
9. Open your email client and type your recipient's phone number, with 1 + area code, in the 'To' box. For example, 12124567890
10. Append to the number the '@' symbol, followed by the recipient's text messaging domain. For example, an AT&T mobile phone may have an email message like 12344567890@mms.att.net. You can find a list of US-based text message domains at Slipstick's website.
11. Enter your message in the body of the email and press 'Send.'
