How to Make Free Calls Through the Internet to Landlines
1. Visit a website that allows you to use their software to place free VoIP calls to landline telephones, such as iCall, VoIP Buster, Free Call, VoIP Stunt or VoIP Cheap (see Resources section).
2. View a list of the countries that you can call for free using the VoIP software. If the country you desire to call is listed, view the time restraints for your free call to ensure the software can accommodate your needs. For example, most of the VoIP software providers have a five-minute time limit per call. If you desire to speak for longer intervals, you will have to pay a small fee to use the services.
3. Click on the option to 'Download' the VoIP soft phone software to your computer. Once the download is complete, click the option to 'Run.' This will launch the software installation wizard. During the software installation, you may be asked to create a username and password. This will vary by provider.
4. Connect your headset and microphone to your computer. If you are using a USB headset, connect the headset to the USB port on your computer.
5. Launch the VoIP soft phone on your computer by clicking on its icon on your desktop or in your computer's system tray. If the icon is not listed on your desktop or system tray, search for the file location on your computer's hard drive.
6. Use your mouse to dial the phone number on the VoIP soft phone. Click the 'Place Call' or 'Send Call' button. The exact wording will vary by software.
7. Begin speaking when the individual answers his landline phone. You may have to adjust the volume on your computer to ensure that you can hear the individual clearly.
