How to Block an Incoming SMS on Android


Blacklist
1. Tap the 'Blacklist' tab on the main page of the Blacklist app.
2. Press the 'Menu' button and select 'Add New List.'
3. Enter a name for the category of messages you wish to block, such as telemarketer or ex-spouse.
4. Tap the newly created category.
5. Press the menu button and select 'Add.' Select to add a number from recent calls, messages or contacts. You may also add a new number.
6. Select or enter the number you wish to block.
7. Tap 'Block message,' then 'OK.'
8. Touch the back button to return to the main page of the app. Tap the button labeled 'Off' next to the blacklist category to turn blocking on.
Handcent SMS
9. Disable notifications from Android Messaging by tapping 'Messaging,' clicking the menu button, then selecting 'Settings' and unchecking the 'Notifications' box. Without turning this off, you will still see text messages in the normal Messaging app even if they are blocked.
10. Select a person to block in Handcent SMS by tapping and holding your finger over their name. This will bring up a new menu.
11. Tap 'Blacklist,' then 'OK' to confirm the block. You will no longer see messages from this number as the app will make them invisible.
Cell Phone Carrier
12. Block text messages on Verizon Wireless by signing in to your account on Verizonwireless.com. Click 'My Services,' then select 'Spam Controls.' Add the number or numbers you want to block and click 'Submit.' Blocked numbers must be renewed every 90 days or they will expire.
13. Block text messaging through AT&T by signing up for 'Smart Limits' for $4.99 per month service. You can do this by selecting 'Smart Limits' from the 'Wireless' drop-down menu. After signing up, click 'Block Numbers' and enter the numbers you wish to block.
14. Block messages on Sprint by sending a text to '9999' with a message containing 'block' followed by a space then the number.
