How Can I Look Up a Phone Number for Free?

Phone Book
The phone book has been around for a long time, and even though most phone book companies had to establish strong Internet counterparts to survive, the printed phone book is still a good option to use for finding a phone number for free. The printed phone book is broken up into the white pages for residential, blue pages for government and yellow pages for business. The phone book also has maps of the local area, listings of all of the emergency phone numbers you will need and in some cases coupons that can save you money when you buy a product or use a service.
Internet
The Internet has become one of the premier sources of information for people all over the world. Not only can you use websites designed for looking up phone numbers to find the person or business you are looking for, you can also use the major search engines to find a company website. When you are on a company website you can find the phone number to the department you are looking for, and it is all at no charge to you. If you would like to make your Internet phone number look-up experience truly free, then do your searching from a computer at the library where you can access the Internet without having to pay the bill.
Business Directory
If you spend any time at your local supermarket or shopping mall, you may have noticed publications offered for free that list businesses of all kinds. Sometimes you can find free publications that list people within a specific industry such as real estate agents or lawyers. These business directories are a good resource for finding information on a company along with their contact information. Similar to the phone book, these publications sometimes offer coupons and specials that you can redeem when you call.

How do I Obtain a Business Cell Phone For Free?

1. Show your private cell phone bills to your employer. If you are frequently using your personal phone for business use, you need to show your bills to your employer. Your employer may not realize how frequently you use your personal phone for business purposes.
2. Ask your employer to get a business cell phone based on the cell phone bills. According to MCL 408.484 law, an employer cannot request that workers use their private cell phone for business purposes.
3. Suggest a cell phone allowance, if your employer is concerned about the budget of the cell phone. You can even suggest that a contract is made between you and your employer that outlines the conditions and usage of the business cell phone.
4. Ask the employer to purchase the cell phone for you, so it becomes a business expense rather than a personal expense. Since you are getting a business cell phone for free, you should not make requirements as to model type or brand.
5. Be flexible if your employer asks to see any phone calls or bills. If your employer finds that the bills are higher or the allowance is spent quicker than expected, he or she may want to check the bills to ensure the contract is being upheld and followed.

How to Find Names With Cell Phone Numbers

1. Subscribe to a reverse phone service such as Intelius or Reverse Phone Detective for approximately $20. These services provide detailed, current information about the user of the cell phone number. Free services such as National Cellular Directory and Free Reverse Cell Phone Directory allow you to trace cell phone numbers at no cost, but in return you must provide personal information like your own name and cell phone number.
2. Type the cell phone number into a search engine. With so many social networking and business sites, the Internet has become a huge storage medium for personal information. Although using a search engine may be the easiest way to find the name connected with a cell phone, it requires a little luck because the person would have had to list his cell phone number someplace on the Internet where public search bots could detect and retrieve it.
3. Search an online cell phone directory. Sites like NonPublished.com release limited information to searchers, but they do provide the first and last names of unlisted cell phone members. If you search for the carrier and city on free cell phone directories, the information may be outdated if the person you seek recently changed cell phone carriers or relocated.

How to Get Free Games for Verizon Phones

1. Navigate to a free game website. Most websites only include the word 'free' to attract traffic via search engines. Two of the most reliable, however, are MoBango and MobilRated (see Resources section). These sites have free downloadable games that will work on your Verizon cell phone.
2. Select your carrier. At either site, you must first select the carrier of your cellular phone; in this case you would select 'Verizon.' For MobilRated, select the round 'Set Mobile' button in the upper-left corner. For MoBango, you will need to 'Sign Up' first (upper-left corner) before selecting your mobile device.
3. Search for the application. You can search the applications by 'browsing' categories or typing in a specific name for the application you want. For example, in MobilRated, you can select the 'browse' button at the top of the screen or select from the list of application names on the left side of the screen.
4. Download the app to your computer. Both sites require you to download to your computer before you are allowed to download to your cell phone.
5. Connect your mobile device to your computer via Bluetooth connectivity (if your cell phone is Bluetooth enabled) or by using the USB cable provided with your cell phone.
6. Play your new game. After download has completed (you will receive a dialogue box indicating it is finished in most cases), you can then access the new game on your cell phone and play at your leisure. For example, on the LG Voyager, open the flip and touch 'Ok' on the Menu option. Then Select 'Get It Now' to view all games available. Touch 'Ok' again to select Games [3]. Other phones will vary and you should consult your phone's user manual.

How to Get Free 411 Service

1.
Google created a free 411 service that is paid for by business advertisers instead of phone company customers like you and me. In order to use the free 411 service, you simply need to dial 1-800-GOOG-411 from your cell phone. Click on the link below to see a video that Google made to introduce their new toll free directory assistance service.
2. Google's free 411 service asks you for the city and state, and the name of the listing that you are looking for. The directory assistance service is an automated system that is remarkably good at voice recognition. You simply speak the answers to the questions, and Google's computers figure out what you said.
3.
Finally, Google's free 411 service will tell you the number that you are looking for. If you are calling from a cell phone, you will also have the option to say 'text message' or 'map it,' which will prompt Google to send you a text message with the number or a map to the location.

How to Enter a Blacklist on SMS

1. Use your cellular service provider's SMS blocking options. Some providers allow you to set different blocking options at the customer service website. AT&T, for example, offers a 'Messaging Preferences' page, where you can block all SMS sent over email, SMS sent from specific email accounts or domains or all SMS. After choosing one of these options, AT&T will SMS a one-time code to the cellphone for authentication. Enter that code on the 'Messaging Preferences' webpage to have the selections take effect.
2. Install SMS-blocking software on your cellular phone. This is a more flexible alternative. For example, an app called 'iBlackList' allows iPhone users to filter SMS by a variety of criteria, either black- or white-listing them source by source. 'iBlackList' can be configured to ignore SMS from individual phone numbers or email addresses. You can protect your configuration with a password for additional security.
3. Write SMS-blocking software for the cellular phone, if the phone can run code that you develop. This is the most complex and most flexible alternative. The criteria that such an application can follow to black- or white-list an SMS are endless--they are limited only by your programming skill. For example, SMS could be blacklisted depending on how many previous SMS have been received from the same source, or depending on how many of them have actually been read by the user. The SMS-Popup Application webpage (see References) includes sample code for a telephone running the Android operating system.

2. Listen to a 10 second message from the company's advertisers, tailored to the phone number you ask for. Considering the price of cell phone information, this is a small price to pay.

How to Locate a Person From a Cell Phone Number For Free

3. Enter the cell phone in one of the popular search engines such as Google--include the entire number and ZIP code, if you know it. Sometimes numbers are listed on other websites from people wondering who owns the number.

Alternatives to a Second Phone Line

T-Mobile's HotSpot @t Home
If your issue with using your cell phone as a second phone is the fear of racking up too many minutes, T-Mobile's HotSpot @Home service might work for you. It works with certain cell phones that are Wi-Fi enabled. When you're out, you use it as a regular cell phone, but when you're home, or within range of any T-Mobile hotspot, your calls automatically switch to Wi-Fi, saving you cell phone plan minutes.
VoIP Phone Service
Many VoIP phone services charge less than the phone company charges for a second phone. Installation is also either free or low cost, and you can usually do it yourself. No wiring is required beyond plugging in another device between your broadband modem and your computer. Vonage is the best-known service that allows you to make regular calls to anyone with any kind of phone number, and to use your regular phone. Other services exist, and your cable TV provider may have a similar service. Monthly fees of between $20 and $35 apply, as of 2009, giving you unlimited local and long distance calling and low-cost calls to many other countries as well.
VoIP via Computer
Services such as Skype are often free if you call only people who are also members of the same service. Typically, you need to sign up for a user account and download software, and your computer needs a microphone and speaker, or you need a headset with a built-in microphone. Some of these services let you pay a small fee, usually a yearly fee of $10 to $30, to purchase an account with the ability to make and receive calls from people with regular phone numbers, but you usually still have to do it using your computer, or purchase a special phone device.
Google Talk and Other Instant Messaging Apps
Online chatting or instant messaging is a way to communicate in real time without a phone. But many providers of IM, including GoogleTalk, have a voice option. It works similarly to the way Skype works, letting you talk to another member of the same service using your computer hardware and the Internet connection. These services are usually free.
Google Voice
Google Voice is not a second phone line but a way to manage your various phone numbers. Sign up for Google Voice and obtain a phone number. Give that number to your friends and family instead of your other numbers, and you can configure how it works. Specify that when family members call, it rings at all of your numbers. But when those annoying telemarketers call, it will go straight to voicemail. Change which phone it forwards to depending on your circumstances. Check voicemail from anywhere on the Internet, and forward messages to others. Google Voice is currently available by invitation only, as of mid-year 2009.
Internet Call Waiting
If you have dial-up Internet and you don't want to miss calls that come in while you're connected to the Web, you can get a service such as Phone Tray, which tells you who is calling and gives you the opportunity to answer the call. PhoneTray has a free version, or you can pay a one-time fee of less than $20 for the full version as of 2009.

How to Trace a Cell Phone SMS

1. Collect the sender's phone number from your cellular phone. In most cellular phones, this information is clearly visible while you are viewing the text message.
2. Enter the phone number into Google. This is a great way to do a rudimentary trace of a phone number. If the number in question has ever been published on the web or is related to a business, you will uncover that information.
3. Conduct a database search for the phone number. There are many free database look-up services on the Internet, such as Zabasearch.com.
4. Conduct a public records database search. These reports are usually more accurate and detailed, but will cost you some money for the report. Examples of these services are Accurint, US Search and LexisNexis.

How to Track Messages on Other Cell Phones

1. Select a mobile phone spy software. Phone Stealth, Mobile Spy and FlexiSpy are the three most popular software programs on the market today. These will not only allow you to track and read text messages, but you can also listen to conversations, keep track of calls and follow the location of the phone as well. As of 2010 these programs cost anywhere between $19.97 a month to $300 for the year, depending on what your needs are.
2. Download and install the program. Although each setup will be slightly different depending on which program you have chosen, the basics are still the same. You will need to have physical possession of the target phone and use it to log on to the Internet. After you purchase the software you will receive a download link. Go to that link and download the software to the phone and begin the installation process. Input the key code given to you when you sign up for the service. After you've entered it, you will need to restart the phone.
3. Set up the phone. Go into the menu and tell the program what details you want it to send you. If you want, you can just keep track of text messages, but you can also keep records of the target phone's incoming and outgoing calls and it's GPS location. If you want the program to run in the background invisibly so that the target doesn't know it's there, you will also have to come up with your own secret code to reveal the program once it is hidden.
4. Log in and track the phone activities. Once the software is installed, the target phone will send you its activities regularly, at intervals that you determine. This information is stored on a password-protected website that you can log into from any computer or web-enabled phone.

How to Track a Cell Phone by Satellite

1. Find a GPS application online. Several free applications are available, including Google Maps for Mobile, Instamapper and Buddyway. Any of these will turn your web-enabled cell phone into a tracking device. Once installed your phone will send a signal to a GPS satellite, which will then send the signal back to a receiver that will put your location on a map through the Internet.
2. Get Google Maps for Mobile. This is the most thorough of the three programs mentioned. It not only turns your phone into a tracking device, but a complete navigation system as well. Google Maps for Mobile offers you audible turn-by-turn directions just like the GPS systems that are available for cars. In addition, you can add the service to your Internet browser if you use Google Chrome so that you can track the cell phone whenever you open it up.
3. Try Buddyway. This uses Google Maps as well, but it is a much more basic system. While it does have some navigation features, it is best used for recording your path during a road trip and sharing it with friends. It has a 30-day history so that they can see the course you took and it also has a feature that allows you to add your friends and family members to your maps. That way you can track each other with your GPS phones.
4. Get Instamapper. This is very similar to Buddyway, but provides a bit more data. For example, it gives you the speed that the phone is moving along with the latitude, longitude and altitude. This is a very easy system to use and allows you to toggle back and forth between map view and satellite photo view. You can see a map that is labeled with street names, or you can see the actual satellite images of the area that the phone is in. If you click on 'hybrid,' you will get both satellite images labeled like a map.

How to Download Free Cell Phone Games Using USB Cables

2. Register for the site by creating a user name and password, and providing a valid email address.
3. Download the games to your computer by clicking on a game and hitting 'Download.' The game will take 30 to 45 seconds to save to your computer.
4. Buy a USB cable data kit for your cell phone. It may have come with it, but if it didn't you can purchase them online for $15 to $30, as of 2010 (see Resources). This kit will allow your cell phone and computer to communicate with one another.
5. Put the CD-ROM into your computer's drive and it will ask you if you wish to install the software. Click 'Yes' and follow the instructions from the installation wizard. Once it is done, click 'Finish.'
6. Connect the cable to the bottom of your phone and the other end to your computer via the USB port.
7. Turn your computer on. After it is done booting up, Windows will give you a message telling you that new hardware has been found and asking if you would like to install the drivers. Click 'Yes' and 'Have Disk' and then 'Browse.' Navigate to your CD-ROM drive and click 'Next.' Windows will look for the drivers and begin installing them. Once it is done, click 'Finish.'
8. Go to the Start menu and in 'Computer' you will find your cell phone listed as one of your drives.
9. Find the free game that you downloaded for your cell phone and left-click it so that it is highlighted. Drag and drop it to your cell phone icon and wait for the game to copy. You have transferred a game to your cell phone with a USB cable.

Rules for Toll Free Numbers Cell Phones

Free to Call
Even though you will be calling the toll-free number from your cell phone, you will not be charged for the call. However, it does use your mobile minutes which you have allotted to you each month via contract, so if you go over your mobile minutes due to the toll-free call, you will be charged by your cell phone provider. It is probably best if you don't call a toll-free number, like a customer service number, from your cell phone but rather a land line, as there is no minute limit on those calls.
Do Not Call Registry
While most cell phone companies block 1-800 numbers from calling their customer's cell phones, there are certain telemarketing companies that find their way around these blocks and call people on their cell phones anyway. This is why it is important for people to individually register their cell phone numbers with the Do Not Call Registry, which is provided in every state and nationally by the Federal Communications Commission. This makes it illegal for telemarketers to contact you for five years after you have registered your cell phone number from their toll-free company numbers.
Toll Free Link to Cell Phone
If you have your own toll-free 1-800 number for your business, you can link it directly to your cell phone so you can answer customer calls at any time and in any place. These toll-free numbers can be set up for a reasonably inexpensive fee per month, with free technical support and the ability to use it easily with any phone. If you set up the link yourself between this toll-free number and your cell phone, there are no rules prohibiting how many times your number can be called. However, be wary of calling others who have cell phones from that number, as it may be blocked or in violation of the national Do Not Call Registry.

How to Install a Hands

1. Buy a Bluetooth-enabled cellular phone. All phones now sold have this capability, which allows them to communicate wirelessly with speakers and microphones.
2. Purchase a speakerphone. These are small units that include a speaker and a microphone; most of them clip to the inside of your sun visor or to the dashboard. Some of these devices are solar-powered while others connect to your truck's dashboard power outlet. It is even possible to buy models with built-in radio transmitters that allow you to use your stereo speakers to hear your callers.
3. Clip your speakerphone in place and connect it to its power supply. Turn it on.
4. Turn on your phone's Bluetooth functionality. This generally involves navigating to your phone's setup menu, then selecting 'Bluetooth' and turning it on. After a few moments, the phone will detect any Bluetooth devices in the area. Select your antenna; it will generally identify itself by name on your phone's screen. You need to do this only once; the next time you bring your phone into your truck, the speakerphone will automatically connect to it.
5. Make calls by dialing the number into your phone and hitting 'Send.' You will hear the call over the speakerphone's speakers and you can pick up incoming calls by pressing the 'Call' button on the speakerphone. Most cellular phones also support voice dialing. Consult your speakerphone and cell phone manual for exact instructions to set this up. Once configured, this will allow you to speak the name of a contact on your phone's contact list into the speakerphone's microphone and have that number dialed.
6. Set up your radio to carry the sound from your speakerphone. If your speakerphone has an FM transmitter, you will be able to choose a frequency for it to broadcast on. How to Send an SMS with a PHP Script

Acquire an SMS Gateway Service
1. Select an SMS gateway service to use. This gateway will forward your messages into the telecoms' cellular network. The gateway service will cost money, because the telecoms charge for SMS message delivery. Take a look at Ozeki or TM4B for examples. There are other services, too, such as the Google SMS gateway.
2. Sign up for the service and get the necessary log-in credentials.
3. Acquire and read the Application Programming Interface (API) for your chosen gateway. The manner in which you send your SMS message will vary according to the API. But there is a general pattern it follows regardless of which gateway you choose.
Send Your Message
4. Set up your request variables. Create an array called '$sms'. This array will contain all the request variables your SMS gateway needs to send a message. You will likely need to set '$sms['to']' for the message receiver, '$sms['from']' for the message sender and '$sms['message']' for the contents of the message. Check the API for other data that needs to be sent.
5. Use cURL to send your request. See the cURL documentation on the PHP website for details on how to use cURL. You will use 'curl_setopt()' to set the URL of your SMS gateway and to encode your '$sms' variable. You will use 'curl_exec()' to send your SMS message to the gateway.
6. Examine the response that 'curl_exec()' returns. If the response is 'false,' then your SMS was not sent. There may be a network problem on your server. If there isn't, check the SMS gateway API again to make sure you're sending all the necessary information correctly. Some SMS gateways offer debugging tools. If yours does, take advantage of them at this point. If the response was 'true,' then your message was sent successfully.

MMS Vs. SMS Text Messages

SMS
Short message service, or SMS, allows text-only messages to be sent to landline and mobile phones, as well as to email clients. These messages are usually limited to 160 characters including punctuation and spacing. SMS messaging requires subscription to a text messaging plan through your mobile provider to use the service without additional fees.
MMS
Multimedia message service, or MMS, allows picture or video messages to be sent from a mobile phone to another phone or email address. The ability to send and receive these types of messages is a part of text messaging service, so you only need a subscription to text through your mobile provider to use this feature.
Difference
SMS text messages cannot be sent with pictures attached, but MMS messages can be sent with both pictures and text included in the message. MMS messages have the same 160-character limit as text messaging.

Why Does My LG Ally Phone Keep Saying My Phone Storage Is Low?

Definition
The pop-up message stating that the phone storage is low refers to the LG Ally's internal memory. Though the phone has 102 megabytes of internal phone memory, applications, messages and browser memory can use a lot of that storage. Your phone may slow down when the memory is close to full, and you often can't receive text messages until you clear some space. Though you may have an SD card installed in the LG Ally to increase your phone's memory, you can't use it for most of the files causing the low phone storage issue.
Solutions
Removing applications from the LG Ally is one of the better methods for clearing memory on the phone. You can remove applications from the phone by opening the Android Market, accessing the 'Downloads' list in the Android Market menu, and selecting the 'Uninstall' option. Clearing your text messages and the browser memory can also free up space on the LG Ally. When deleting the browser memory, make sure you delete the cache, history and cookies.
Deleting All Data
The quickest method of deleting all of the data from your phone is to perform a factory data reset. All of your settings and personal information are also removed from the phone when you perform a factory data reset, leaving the phone as it was when you first took it out of the box. The factory data reset only deletes the information stored in your phone's internal memory, and not the data stored on an installed SD card. To perform a factory data reset, open the 'Privacy' option in the phone's settings and select 'Factory Data Reset.' Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the reset. You're prompted to enter all of your account information when the phone turns on again.
Prevention
Preventing the low phone storage message from appearing on your LG Ally requires observation of your phone's current memory status before installing applications on the phone. You can check the phone's remaining storage space by opening the phone's 'Settings' menu and selecting 'SD Card & Phone Storage.' Before installing a new application on the phone, check the size of the application in the Android Market. If the application is large, consider removing other applications before installing the new one. Regularly delete your text messages and browser memory to open space on the phone.

How to Send an SMS Worldwide

1. Confirm with your mobile phone network that your international messaging service is active. If not, request for the activation. Check the destination country of your intended recipient, if it is a part of the list of global partners of your network. Most telecom companies provide international texting services to hundreds of countries all over the world. However, there are still some countries that may not be available for their services. In such case, you won't be able to send an SMS.
2. Know the format required by your network in sending an SMS to an international phone number. The general format often used by popular telecoms like AT&T and T-Mobile requires the use of a '+' sign, followed by the SMS recipient's country code, area code or network code (instead of the area code of the state or city, the telecom company of the recipient's mobile phone uses its own network code), then the mobile phone number. For Sprint, you must first dial the international exit code '011' instead of the '+' sign before keying in the country code, area code or network code, then the mobile phone number.
3. Verify the mobile phone number of your SMS recipient. Since in some countries, people may call mobile phones locally without using the country code, among other possible differences in formats for international calls, you have to figure out the correct format on your own, in accordance to the instructions provided by your network. The easiest way to get the correct format is by first confirming the country code, which is easily accessible through online sources and even your own network's website, then the area code or network code (sometimes called the network provider prefix), which you can also find online or by asking the mobile phone network of your recipient. It is always best to ask your international SMS recipient to provide you with the complete mobile phone number with the country code, area code or network code and mobile phone number.
4. Type your message, then key in your mobile phone recipient's number, according to the required format for sending an international SMS. Note that there are networks and mobile phone handsets that limit the number of characters sent to 160. Anything beyond this may be allowed, but it will mean twice the cost of a typical international SMS.
5. Press the 'Send' key and wait for the 'Message Sent' prompt that confirms the sending of the SMS.

How to Transfer Cricket Phone Service to Another Phone

1. Upgrade your phone through Cricket if you don't already have a new one in mind. Point your browser to the Cricket Account Web page then log in using your Cricket phone number and password. Click the 'Upgrade' button within 'MyCricket' and shop phones until you find one that meets your requirements.
2. Flash the phone to which you wish to transfer Cricket service if you purchased it through another carrier. Cricket uses the Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) network and handsets, which means that programming -- not the use of a SIM card -- dictates a given phone's network affiliation. Bring your phone to your nearest Cricket store, whose associates can either flash your phone while you wait, or direct you to a nearby, authorized agent who can do the same. If you don't flash your non-Cricket phone to Cricket's network, you can't use it with Cricket.
3. Activate your new phone to transfer existing Cricket service. Click the first link listed under 'Resources,' then 'Activate Now.' Click 'Activate Now' again, then enter your phone's serial number, located on the inward-facing surface of its battery. Click 'Next,' then enter your Cricket account credentials, log in and select the option to activate this phone to your existing account. Click 'Activate.'

How to Get a Free Upgrade From T

1. Check your eligibility. As of the date of publication, if you're in a two-year contract, you qualify for a partial discount every 12 months. A full discount is available to you if it has been 22 months since your last upgrade. If you signed a one-year contract, you must wait 11 months before you're eligible for any upgrade discounts. Contact customer care by calling 1-877-453-1304 to verify your eligibility.
2. Shop around. T-Mobile offers different pricing online and in-store. If you find a phone you wish to upgrade to, check both places before buying. Third-party retailers also offer their own pricing and promotions, so checking these stores could save you as well. If you find an advertised price that beats T-Mobile's, be sure to get a copy of the ad as T-Mobile may be able to match that price.
3. Watch for promotions. Occasionally, T-Mobile and other authorized T-Mobile dealers offer free upgrades with waived activation fees. Promotions usually change monthly, and you can often find the best deals around the holidays or back-to-school months. If you don't need a new phone immediately, wait for a promotion that gives you the most bang for your buck.
4. Help out your sales representative. Most sales reps are paid on commission and have a monthly sales quota to meet. Offer to buy an accessory or add a new feature to your plan in exchange for a waived upgrade fee.
5. Call customer service. If you aren't able to negotiate with your sales rep or find a waived activation fee promotion, you may be able to have the $18 charge removed from your bill. Call customer service at 1-877-453-1304 and ask for a bill credit. It helps to call before your return period is up -- 20 to 30 days in most cases. A representative will often credit your account to prevent you from returning your phone.
