How to Create Free Sound Effects Ringtones for Your Cell Phone
Download Holiday Sound Effects
1. Launch your browser and search the Internet for appropriate sound bytes for the holiday of your choice. The web sites A1FreeSoundEffects.com, FreeLoops.com and Entertonement.com are all good starting points for sound bytes. You might also search the Internet using 'halloween sound effects' or 'christmas sound effects.'
2. Download sound files. This usually involves right-clicking on each link and saving each file to a location on your hard drive. Saving to your desktop makes these files especially easy to find when you are ready to upload and turn them into ringtones.
3. Repeat until you are satisfied with the selection of holiday sound effects you have downloaded.
Upload Holiday Sound Effects
4. Go to Myxer.com or a similar free ringtone conversion service web site.
5. Click 'Browse' to select a sound effect file you downloaded earlier. Myxer.com recognizes many different audio file types. If Myxer.com does not recognize a particular file type, however, move on to the next file and select it.
6. Click 'Open' or 'OK,' then click 'Upload' to upload the sound effect. Myxer.com uploads the file and generates a popup window with a visual wave graph of the sound effect. Allow Myxer.com to fully upload the file.
7. Click and adjust the start and end points of your ringtone in the wave graph. The start and end points will be marked with vertical orange bars, and the selected area between them will be colored light blue. If your sound effect is shorter than 30 seconds, Myxer.com will automatically select the entire sound effect. If your sound effect is longer than 30 seconds, Myxer.com will automatically select 30 seconds, which you can then edit to adjust the start and end points, and make your loop as long as 45 seconds if desired.
8. Click the 'Play' button (indicated by a right arrow as on a CD player) to sample the loop.
9. Continue to sample and adjust the start and end points of your selected loop until you are satisfied. Myxer.com displays the start time and length of the loop on the right side of the popup window. If the loop is of sufficient length, you may also elect to create a Fade In and/or Fade Out for the loop. Most sound effects loops, however, are too short to fade in or fade out.
10. Select your preferred 'Volume' from the drop-down menu. You may set your sound effect ringtone's volume to your phone's default, leave it as it is or increase or decrease it. Myxer.com's default setting is your phone's default volume.
11. Click 'Continue,' enter your area code and cell phone number, then click 'Next.'
12. Click 'Send.' Myxer.com immediately sends your new sound effect ringtone to your telephone number as an SMS (Short Message Service). Message and data rates may apply depending on your carrier and plan.
13. Repeat for each holiday sound effect ringtone you wish to save to your phone.
Assign Holiday Sound Effects
14. Open an SMS message which contains a new sound effect ringtone you have sent to your phone. Your phone may play the ringtone in the message.
15. Choose to 'Save Sound' or 'Save Ringtone.' Your phone will save the new sound effect ringtone to your phone's ringtones folder.
16. Navigate to your phone's ringtones folder and select the new sound effect ringtone.
17. Assign the sound effect ringtone to a contact in your address book or to the default notifications for incoming calls, incoming text messages or new voice mail messages according to your phone's instruction manual for ringtone settings.
18. Repeat until you have saved and satisfactorily assigned your new holiday sound effect ringtones.
