How to Send Receive Free Text Messages From the Computer to a Phone

1. Log into your email account. If you do not have an email account, you can set one up for free through a variety of services, such as Gmail and Yahoo.
2. Open a new email window. In the 'To' address field, type the 10-digit phone number you wish to email and the correct company code after the number. For example, if you wish to send a text to 555-123-4567 and the number belongs an AT&T customer you would enter 5551234567@txt.att.net. 3. Compose your email. Keep in mind, most text messages are only 160 characters or fewer, so keep it short to avoid having your message cut off. Then click send, and the email will be sent as a text message to your contact. When they reply, the text message they send will show up as a new email in your inbox.
