How to Change a Cell Phone Number From AT&T.
1. Call AT&T customer service at 1-800-331-0500 from a phone other than the line you wish to have changed.
2. Select (1) for 'other options' when prompted to enter your wireless phone number.
3. Select (1) at the next menu to speak directly with a customer care agent.
4. Request the number change. To verify that you are authorized to make the switch, you will need to provide your account number, your phone number, your billing zip code, and a passcode.
5. Select the option of having AT&T provide a phone number, or choose a phone number of another account of yours. You are permitted to carry a phone number across different cell phone service providers thanks to the WLPN Laws of 2003.
6. Accept the fee for having your cell phone number changed. The fee is standard for all types of accounts (pay-as-you go or contract) and is $36 as of October 2009.
