How to Send a Text Message in Ubuntu
1. Use Wammu to send text messages from Ubuntu. Available in Ubuntu's universe respository for free, Wammu is maintained and updated by the Ubuntu community. This basic interface allows you access to your text messages, call history and contacts while your phone is plugged into your computer via USB dongle, Infrared or Bluetooth connection. It also enables you to send and receive text messages using your phone as an access point to the cell network. Wammu must be set up using the software's included setup wizard.
2. Send text messages using Phone Manager, which is available in the universe repository as a free download. It is maintained and updated by the Ubuntu community and allows you to sync your address book with Evolution, as well as send text messages when it is connected to your computer via USB dongle or Bluetooth.
3. Install SIM IM on your Ubuntu computer to send text messages. In addition to sending and receiving text messages using your cellphone information, SIM IM also supports the protocols for Gtalk, Jabber, ICQ, AIM and MSN chat programs. It is available in the universe repository for free and is simple to use.
