How to Send Free Unlimited Text Messages

1. Create a free Google Voice account and choose a telephone number. You can enroll through your existing Gmail account or from scratch, if you do not have email through Google. You will not be asked for a credit card or any other payment information. You can choose your telephone number from a list of cities or area codes.
2. Verify your new Google Voice telephone number by linking your existing telephone number to your account. You can use either a cell phone or landline. Simply enter the number in Google Voice and click the option to verify. You will receive a two-digit code. Click the option to call your existing telephone number and enter the code. This activates your new Google number.
3. Click the 'Text' button in the upper left-hand corner of the main Google Voice screen and fill out the appropriate information in the pop-up box. You will be asked for the text and the intended recipient's phone number. There is a 160-character limit.
4. Click 'Send' to transmit. You do not pay anything, though recipients pay the standard cost of receiving a text, if without an unlimited plan. They can reply through your Google Voice number, which will cost you nothing if you set up your account to receive through your email address.
