How to Text From Your Computer
1. Go to the Text4Free website (see link in the References section), which offers free text messaging to US and international providers' cell phones.
2. Scroll down the page to the 'Send Free SMS' section and enter the phone number of the recipient (no dashes, for example, 1234567890) and select the mobile carrier from the drop-down menu. Click on the 'Click to Add Another Recipient' button if you are sending the same text to several people. Text4Free allows you to send text messages to up to ten people at the same time.
3. Type the message you want to send in the text box located in section two of the web page. You cannot exceed a limit of 140 words.
4. Select the number of the text messages you want to send from the drop-down menu in section three (one, five or ten messages at a time). Keep in mind that if you selected more than one recipient in the first step only one message will be sent to each person.
5. Click on the 'Browse' button in section four of the web page if you want attach a video, a song, or a picture with your message. Navigate to the location of the file on your hard drive in the browsing window and double-click it to attach.
6. Type in the text as required in section five of the web page and click the 'Send Message(s)!' button. The measure of typing in an assigned string of letters and numbers proves that you are an actual person and prevents spybots from sending automatic spam messages to cell phones. You will be asked to type a new set of characters before sending a message if you got it wrong the first time.
