How to Get a Gmail Phone Number


Getting a Gmail Account
1. Open a Web browser and go to google.com. Click 'Gmail' at the top of the page. Click the 'Create an Account' button.
2. Enter the information requested in the text fields, including your 'Desired Login Name.' Click the 'Check Availability' button. Select another name and try again if your first choice is not available.
3. Enter your primary email address in the 'Recovery Email' field. This is not mandatory, but it will allow you to reset your password should you forget it.
4. Read the Terms of Service, Program and Privacy Policies, then click 'I Accept. Create My Account.'
Getting Google Phone Number
5. Go to google.com/chat/voice and click 'Try It Now' to install Google Voice to your Gmail account. Click the 'Get a Google Number' button.
6. Enter an area code or ZIP code in the first text field to search for an available number in your area. Alternatively, type a word or name in the second text field to search for a number that matches that word on a telephone dial pad. Click 'Search.' A list of available numbers is displayed with area codes and locations for that area code.
7. Click on the telephone number you want, then click 'Continue.'
8. Type a 4-digit personal identification number -- PIN-- and confirm it by typing it again, then click the box beside 'I Accept Google Voice's Terms and Privacy Policy' if you agree.
9. Type a phone number that you want to ring when you get a call using your Google phone number. Click 'Continue.'
10. Verify the phone number by clicking 'Call Me Now.' When the phone rings type the code you see on your screen into the telephone dial pad.
11. Click the 'Done' button.
