How to Send a Text Message to a Cell Phone From a PC

Sending Texts via Email
1. Launch your email account. If you use an email client like Microsoft Outlook or Mozilla Thunderbird, open your email client. If you prefer a web-based email service like Gmail or Yahoo, log in to your email account in a web browser.
2. Create a new message. Select the option to create a new message. Although you can create a message of any length you wish, it will be broken up into 160-character segments when emailed to a cell phone.
3. Address the message. Ask your contact what their cell phone's email address is. It is usually in the format of phonenumber@carrier.com. However, if they do not know the address, below are the text-via-email address formats for some major carriers:AT&T: number@txt.att.net
Nextel: number@messaging.nextel.com
Sprint: number@messaging.sprintpcs.com
T-Mobile: number@tmomail.net
Verizon: phonenumber@vtext.com
Virgin Mobile: number@vmobl.com
4. Compose the message. Write a message as long as you like, but remember that any content over 160 characters will be split into multiple messages.
5. Send the message. Once you click Send, the message will be delivered via text message to the phone you specified.
Sending Texts via AOL Instant Messenger
6. Launch and log in. Open AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) and log in using your username and password.
7. Start a new instant message. Open the People menu on the top of the screen and select Send Instant Message.
8. Enter the phone number. You must include the country code when entering the destination cell phone number in AIM. For example, if you to text message (555) 555-5555, a number in the United States, you must use the country code, which is +1. In the To field on AIM, you would enter '+5555555555'.
9. Compose your message. As you type, remember that text messages are limited to 160 characters.
10. Send the message. Once you type the message you want to send via text message, simply click Send. The message will be delivered directly to the phone number you entered.
