How to Send a Free SMS to a GSM

1. Visit the SprintPCS 2Way SMS online tool to send free SMS messages to Sprint customers. Create an account (Sprint does not allow anonymous texting) and sign on to start sending texts to your recipient. Type in the cellphone number, return contact number or email, and your message in the box provided. You can receive messages back from the Sprint GSM user by staying logged into the online two-way messaging tool.
2. Use the AT&T Users website to send free SMS messages to AT&T users who use GSM cellphones. Enter your recipient cellphone number, message subject, and message (no more than 140 characters) . Provide your email address so that the service can contact you with a confirmation and make sure that AT&T PCS is selected from the drop-down list. Send the message and wait for confirmation via email.
3. Send a free text message to users who have T-Mobile, another GSM provider, if you have a T-Mobile account. Log into the account and select 'Send a text message' under the 'Connect and Share' tab. Enter your messaging details, including the recipient number, your number (and name), and your message (only accepts up to 129 characters). Send the message online---the recipient will open the message on his phone.
4. Send a text message to a GSM phone using Yahoo! Mail as an alternative if your recipient isn't covered under one of the major providers. Create a Yahoo! account, log into your email account, and sign into your Yahoo! chat system. Click 'New' then 'Text Message (SMS)' from the list of options. Type in the mobile number and your message up to 144 characters, just as if you were sending a chat message to one of your contacts.
