How to Use Twitter SMS on a Phone

Adding a Phone to Your Twitter Account
1. Log in to Twitter and select 'Settings' from the drop-down menu near the top right of the Twitter Web page.
2. Click on the 'Mobile' link, select your location from the 'Country\Region' menu, and enter your phone number.
3. Click 'Start' and follow the instructions to verify your phone. Send 'GO' as a text message to the number Twitter provides. After verification, you can use Twitter via SMS from your phone.
Posting via SMS
4. Ensure your phone is linked to your Twitter account.
5. Send your Tweet as a text message to the appropriate Twitter short code. The short code is '40404' for users within the United States.
6. Check your Twitter profile online to see that your Tweet posted successfully.
Receiving SMS Messages for Direct Messages, Mentions and Selected Tweets
7. Send 'set messages on' as a text message to your Twitter short code to get direct messages via SMS. Twitter will forward these private messages to your cell phone.
8. Text 'set mentions all' to your short code if you want to receive all Twitter mentions as SMS messages on your cell phone. Mentions are Tweets by other Twitter users that include your Twitter username. If you only want to receive SMS notifications of mentions made by people you follow on Twitter, send 'set mentions on' to your short code instead of 'set mentions all.'
9. Send 'on username' to your short code to receive a single Twitter user's Tweets as SMS messages. Replace 'username' with the username of the Twitter user you want to follow on your mobile device. Do not include any quotes or brackets in the text command.
