How to Get Free Cellular Service

1. Determine if the state you live in is serviced by one of the wireless companies offering the 'Lifeline' program. The companies' websites allow you to enter your ZIP code to determine your eligibility.
2. Fill out the application online for the wireless company you have chosen to use. The application consists of your full name, address, contact information, birthdate and Social Security Number.
3. Verify that you qualify for the 'Lifeline' program. The wireless company will inform you of what you must submit to them to qualify under your state's rules. Most states require proof of participation in the food-stamp, Medicaid, public-housing-assistance or supplemental-security-income programs. You may also qualify based on your income. If you qualify based on income, you must provide proof of your income.
4. Re-certify with the wireless company each year to keep your wireless service.
