How Can I Text a Cell Phone From a Computer Receive Them for Free?

1. Log in to your Google Account. Click on 'more,' located in the upper left-hand side of the page, then click on 'even more' from the drop-down menu. Click on 'Voice' from the menu that follows. This opens your Voice dashboard.
2. Click on 'settings,' located next to your login name in the upper right-hand corner of the screen. Choose 'Voice settings' from the drop-down menu. This opens another menu.
3. Click on the 'phone' tab. Mobile phone users must uncheck the box next to 'Mobile,' under the 'Forwards to:' heading on this page. This prevents texts from being forwarded to and/or charged to your cell phone by your service provider.
4. Click on the 'voicemail and text' option, located next to 'phones.' Check the box next to 'Text Forwarding.' This forwards your texts to the email address associated with the account, allowing you to respond to an incoming text either via Google Voice or e-mail, for free.
