How to Send Receive an SMS Message

SMS Message through Phone
1. Go to the main menu of your cell phone. Usually, there’s a prominent “Menu” key in the keypad that takes you to the cell phone’s menu. The keys and options differ from cell phone to cell phone.
2. Select the “Messaging” option from the menu.
3. Select “Write New”/“New.”
4. Select “Text Message” from the list of message type. You can also send an MMS (multimedia messaging service).
5. Type the message you want to send using the phone’s keypad. Once you are done, press the appropriate key to select “Continue”/“Send.”
6. Select “Enter phone number” if you know which number to send the message to. If you want to select the number from the phonebook, select “”Contacts Lookup”/“Phonebook.”
7. Enter the phone number if you have chosen to type the number. If you have selected the phonebook option, find the person’s name on your address book and select it.
8. Select “Send” to confirm that you want to send the message.
9. Wait for the recipient to reply back. Your phone will beep or play a tone upon receiving the message. Simply press “Yes”/“Open” to read the message.
SMS Message through an IM Client
10. Download and install AIM on your computer. You need a version later than 5.2. Open AIM after it installs.
11. Click 'Menu,' then “New IM.” In the new window that opens, select 'Send a text message instead.'
12. Enter the phone number in the “To” field. The number should be typed in this format: +12223334444 (you need to add the +1 before entering the 10-digit phone number).
13. Enter the message in the message field. Hit “Enter.” The IM will then be sent from your AIM to the recipient’s cell phone number.
