How to Send Receive an SMS From a PC to a Cell

1. Login to your personal email account on your PC. Your email can be through whichever service you choose; Yahoo and Gmail are two examples of the many free email hosts available. If you do not have an email account, you will need to create one before proceeding to the next step.
2. Create a new email message. This will be accomplished just as you would for a regular email, by pressing 'new' or 'compose.' Type the message in the appropriate field.
3. Determine which address to use when sending your message. To send an email from your PC as an SMS to a cellular subscriber, enter the cell phone's email address. According to AT&T Wireless, an AT&T consumer can send and receive emails using the phone's email address, which is the 10-digit number@txt.att.net. To find out what other carrier's phone email addresses are, simply call the cellular provider. It is important to remember that receiving an email from a PC to a cell phone, as a SMS, will charge the cellular user normal text messaging rates.
4. Send a SMS message to an email address the same way you would text message to any other phone. Simply insert a regular email address into the 'To' field instead of a cell phone number. The message will be delivered into the recipient's email, showing it is from your cell phone's email address.
